CAD Operator/Drafter, Engineering Technician III Mobile

Description of Duties:

  • Creates new and or updates existing drawings detailing mechanical components, electronics and complex assemblies using 3D CAD (SolidWorks) software based primarily of input from engineers. 
  • Performs operation, modification and maintenance of flight simulators. 
  • Assist with the design, development, integration and testing of simulation models and corresponding hardware and software, for flight simulators.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs hardware and software on complex training devices.


  • Knowledge of the terminology, methods, practices, and techniques of engineering drafting on CAD Systems, especially AUTOCAD. Knowledge of mathematics as applied to engineering principles of the field of assignments.
  • Knowledge of software systems used to support CAD operation, including MS DOS and Xenix.
  • Knowledge of electronic and CAD supporting computer hardware.
  • Skill in drafting engineering plans of more than ordinary complexity both manually and using CAD System.
  • Ability to prepare complex schematic drawings from rough sketches or oral instructions.
  • Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, supplemented by advanced course work in engineering drafting; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.


  • A minimum, six (6) years simulator operation and maintenance experience of which two (2) years shall be in the operation and maintenance of all major areas, systems and subsystems of complex flight training devices.

This time must be exclusive of formalized training. With applicable CAD experience/education, the following may be consider equivalent to flight simulator experience:

  • Experience with the operation and maintenance of complex avionics/aircraft systems. 
  • Experience with the operation and maintenance of complex computer, electronic and mechanical equipment.
  • Graduation from a two-year Electronics Technician resident course at an accredited technical institute, or equivalent education and experience in a related field.
  • Experience in designing, installing, documenting, testing, etc., software and hardware modifications to complex flight training devices and or aircraft is desired.
  • Experience with programming languages a plus

Applicants must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance.

The position may require off shift working hours and is located in Mobile, Alabama.
