Technical Writer

Job Description:  
  • Research, write, and edit project documentation deliverables (e.g. Technical Reference Manuals, Procedures, System Operation & Maintenance Manuals, Instructor Utilization Handbooks, and Training System Support Document) in accordance with Data Item Descriptions.
  • Manage all aspects of assigned projects, including planning, researching, writing, review process, coordination of other departmental resources, and publication.
  • Work closely with product development teams to ensure accuracy and completeness of information.
  • Provide Logistics support for DMSMS, spares provisioning, maintainability and reliability analysis.
  • Study drawings, specifications, mock-ups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.
  • Review published materials in order to recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
  • Utilize manufacturer’s and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
  • Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to best illustrate material.
  • Create illustrations to enhance specified materials or assembly sequence.
  • Assist with creation, duplication and distribution of material.

  • Proficiency in using MS Office, Visio, XML documentation, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Technician or hardware design backgrounds a plus.
  • Familiarity with AutoCad a plus.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Security clearance.
  • Candidate must be able to work in small confined spaces (simulator cockpits)

  • Required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard.

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Available to perform travel from time to time.
