  Job Description:

  Manufacturing Technicians (Mfg Techs) at ASI perform hands-on electro-mechanical assembly and light fabrication tasks typically associated with the production and installation of simulation and training devices, or device modification kits, that are installed throughout the U.S. and abroad. Tasks are typically defined as build-to-print, using engineering drawings and associated lists combined with instructions documented on Job Tickets, Work Instructions, Installation Plans, etc. There is a broad spectrum of skills required to produce, install, and/or modify simulation devices. A single Mfg Tech is not expected to possess all skills necessary to produce a complete device but is expected to be an integral part of a team that does. Most tasks can be categorized as requiring an Mfg Tech that has either electrical assembly skills or mechanical fabrication/assembly skills.   Requirements:
  An Mfg Tech at ASI must be able to perform high-quality light fabrication, mechanical assembly, and/or electrical assembly tasks by interpreting Department of Defense (DOD) level engineering drawings, lists, work instructions/plans, and industry standards. Work is required to be performed both in-plant (Tampa Facility) and at training, centers typically located on Military Installations in the U.S and throughout the World. As ASI’s production environment is considered to be prototype/short run, the Mfg Tech must be able to identify and communicate and build documentation issues/errors to Quality Assurance and/or Hardware Engineering staff. The ASI Mfg Tech is required to be a U.S. Citizen, possess, or have the ability to obtain, a DOD “Secret” level Clearance, and is required to comply with any DOD/ASI corporate public safety protocols. ASI requires the Mfg Tech to work a full 40hrs/week on a regular basis, and to work paid overtime in-plant on occasion, and during any field installation effort.  
  Qualifications:
  • Must have some background experience with the production of electrical assemblies (ex: cable assemblies, wired chassis’) or mechanical fabrications/assemblies, preferably in a military production environment
  • Must possess certification for specialty assembly practices such as soldering (J-STD, IPC), welding (AWS), etc.or be willing to be trained and tested to obtain certifications as required by ASI for skill sets associated with the position
  • Must be willing to travel on an as-needed basis
  • Must possess basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Must interact well with co-workers in a team-oriented environment
  Skills:
  •  Ability to read/understand mechanical fabrication and assembly engineering drawings and parts lists and,
  • Ability to perform light fabrication using hand tools and/or prototype fabrication machinery/equipment (ex: shear, punch press, press brake, saws, mill, lathe, welder, drill press, surface finishing, and paint) and,
  • Ability to perform bench sub-assembly, upper-level device assembly, and device installation tasks using hand tools, moving/rigging equipment

    Or-

  • Ability to read/understand electrical assembly engineering drawings, wire lists, wiring diagrams and,
  • Ability to perform electrical sub-assembly tasks typically comprised of cable assemblies and wired chassis and panel assemblies requiring associated skills of component mounting, designator marking, wire cutting, stripping, crimping, tinning, and soldering, and wire routing/dressing, and
  • Ability to perform upper-level device wiring and cabling tasks
  • Ability to work within strict given deadlines.

   Physical Demands:
  • Required to talk and hear.
  • Required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel, and to manipulate keys on a keyboard.
  • Required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Work at heights of up to 20’ with appropriate safety gear
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
   Work Environment:
  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials and products up to 30 pounds. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but is not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud in an open bay manufacturing area.
