ASI was selected by NAWCTSD to deliver the C-2A Operational Flight Trainer (OFT) Development and Modification Program. This program included the design, development, fabrication, integration, and test of a C-2A Operational Flight Trainer (OFT) for installation at the Naval Air Station at North Island, CA (Device 2F168 SN2). The contract also included the modification and update of the existing C-2A OFT at the Naval Station at Norfolk, VA (Device 2F168 SN1).
After successfully completing this contract, NAWCTSD awarded another contract to ASI (under the TSC II Lot 1 contract vehicle) for the C-2A OFT Technology Refresh, Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance / Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) and NP2000 Program. This contract upgrades the C-2A OFTs to incorporate the latest CNS/ATM avionics and communications system (glass cockpit) as well as replacing the Instructor Operator Station (IOS), the host computer system, and trainer I/O with the latest technology expanding the Flight Instructor’s capabilities and simplifying interaction and training.
The C-2A OFT training devices provide training in aircraft operations using normal and emergency procedures described in the C 2A NATOPS Manual. In addition, the trainers provide training on procedures for preflight, pre-start, start, ground and shipboard deck operations, pre taxi, pre takeoff, takeoff from land based fields and carrier catapult launch, climb, normal and emergency flight operations (including approach to stalls, stalls, engine air-start, and alternate air-start), approach to carrier deck and land based fields, the carrier deck, field and carrier landing, post landing, engine shutdown/secure, post shutdown, navigational equipment turn on/off and alignment procedures, and cargo handling and loading procedures.
