ASI was selected by NAWCTSD to deliver the E-2C Group II Navigation Upgrade Program. The program included state-of-the-art improvements in trainer systems design and capability and incorporation of the Integrated Navigation System Upgrade (AFC 399) and the NP2000 Propeller System. It also included replacement of the simulator host computer system, trainer I/O system, Instructor/Operator System, Cockpit Trainee Station modifications, and visual system upgrade for installations at the Naval Station at Norfolk VA (Devices 2F166 SN2 and 2F110 SN1) and Naval Air Station Pt Mugu CA (Device 2F110 SN2). NOTE: Visual System Upgrade performed on 2F166.

The Device 2F166 S/N 2 was an OFT that provides an effective degree of simulation in relation to the actual E-2C Hawkeye aircraft in the areas of flight and navigation, under direct supervision of an instructor.

The mission of the E-2C OFTs was to provide the fleet with the capability to train and qualify E 2C aircrewmembers (including engine maintenance turn-up personnel) at a rate consistent with operational demands.

The OFTs provide training in aircraft operations using normal and emergency procedures described in the E-2C NATOPS Manual. This includes procedures for preflight, prestart, start, ground and shipboard deck operations, pre-taxi, pre-takeoff, takeoff from land based fields and carrier catapult launch, climb, normal and emergency flight operations (including approach to stalls, stalls, engine airstart and alternate airstart), approach to land based fields and the carrier deck, field and carrier landing, post-landing, engine shutdown/secure, post-shutdown, as well as navigational equipment turn on/off and alignment procedures.

The following E-2C systems were developed and/or integrated by ASI:

  • Aerodynamics
  • Flight Controls
