Customer: Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWC-TSD)
User: US Navy VAW-120 in Norfolk, VA and VAW 115 in Atsugi Japan
ASI developed two Reconfigurable Flight Training Devices (RFTDs) for the US Navy on a sole source contract due to safety of flight issues with the new NP-2000 system going into the fleet without a viable training device.
The devices were each reconfigurable between two versions of the E-2C aircraft (with and without CNS-ATM) and two versions of the C-2A aircraft (again, with and without CNS-ATM). Configuration changes between baselines could be performed in less than 1 minute. Both devices include an accurate flight model based on the Operational Flight Trainers for each aircraft type.
